The Caterer Next Door

Sometimes the most remarkable of things in this world are right under your nose. That being said, an introduction must be made. Spokane's private catering scene has been sitting on a secret for far too long—so it was only a matter of time before the glutinous press swooped in for exposure. Once upon a time there was a little blue kitchen in a little white house on a quiet little street in the Gonzaga neighborhood where at nearly any hour of the day can be found the private caterer Colleen Fuchs mixing batters and stirring onions; basting chicken and sculpting cakes; slicing fruit and whipping mousses for afternoon tea tarts. Fuchs unofficially began her catering career ten years ag ...

Boathouse opening F...

Hayden Lake shoreline landlovers will be happy to hear of the re-opening of their neighborhood restaurant, now named The Boathouse.  Having recently gone through a little face lift, they are ready for the season with new staff, dinnerware and a new look!  Their family friendly dockside atmosphere is perfect for this coming weekend's warm weather -- a great place to hang out or to take something to go on the lake.  The deck provides Hayden Lake's only dining-with-a-view hot spot, other than the Clark House which is reservation dining only.  The menu includes casual fare such as burgers and fry baskets, and still has a spot for fine fish, steaks, ribs and pasta dishes.  The draft beer lis ...

Fleur de Sel

If you haven't been to North Idaho 's only French restaurant, now is the time! Before the Inland Northwest completely fills their reservations with excited and happy diners, you had better get your turn at being one of the first to discover them. I found them at the prompting of many a reader's request and I am so glad to find this place tucked into the Highland Day Spa on a hill overlooking the Post Falls valley below. Even though there virtually are no signs announcing it's there, you will have to find it. There is a little piece of dining heaven on that hill. Fleur de Sel means the flower of salt, the first scrapings of the salt field. They are tasty, chunky unrefined and ...
